Homeschooling Resources: Homeschooling Methods

Christianity & Homeschooling: Why is Prayer the Ultimate Source of Power? Teaching Prayer in Homeschool
By Mimi Rothschild

Your homeschool child knows that when we pray, we communicate with a Higher Power. It is the most sacred and pious of activities man can ever do. All of us contribute our bit and leave the rest to the Creator to fulfill our dreams. He knows what is in our heart and what will work best for us; He gives it to us generously.

Homeschool children are taught the value of prayers from a very young age. A prayer forms the spiritual foundation in the hearts and minds of homeschool children. A spiritual, homeschooled child knows that the mind is like an empty but fertile garden where we plant the seeds of knowledge and happiness. It is a breeding ground where the parents can grow the seeds of faith and love. The homeschool child learns by seeing his devout parents praying and praising the Lord. He understands the prayer as a powerful force to spread love, calmness and peace in the family.

The homeschool child knows the value of extolling the virtues of the Lord in good times and bad. He sees and follows his parents in a quest of peace. You have to teach your homeschool children the right way of praying. Show him how he can focus on God and communicate with Him. You have to simply thank the Lord and ask Him for forgiveness and say a prayer of our wish. Even if you do not ask, the Lord, being your Creator, knows what is in your mind and gives it to you- like a loving and doting father. Give your homeschool child some beautiful and inspiring books on how a prayer can change things and events in life.

You can keep a spiritual diary of prayers which can show the homeschool child about the spiritual achievement and answered prayers in the book. God is our Creator and by our side in all times through thick and thin. Your homeschool child will understand how praying for the wellbeing and health of the elders like grandparents is beneficial. Soon the children will foster a bond not only with the children of their own age but even the elderly people, as God works to create an environment of peace and love all around the homeschool child.

Your homeschool children should thank God for the food and drink they receive. They should pray to God to give them a way by which they can share the good things with the other children and people in the world. You should also share with your homeschool children how prayers have helped you achieve the best things in life with spiritual peace. Ask the homeschool child to pray to God to make him or her have inner peace and inner strength to face all the adversities in life. Make the homeschool child know that God's presence can help all problems and obstacles in life.
