College Planning: Motivation - The Secret Behind Every Successful Homeschool
By Mimi Rothschild
Motivation plays an important role in the well-being and progress of the child in homeschool. In homeschool, every child is taught to be independent and flexible. He begins to learn about life, not just books. Motivation in homeschool does not mean giving fish to a man who is hungry. It means teaching him how to catch fish so he does not remain hungry for the rest of his life.
The homeschooling parent is very conscious about making the child aware of his goals and helping him achieve them. It is important to know what it is that can propel him to take progressive steps. The homeschooling parent helps the child realize that the motivation has to be self-provoked. It has to come from within. Nobody can live someone's life for them. The homeschooling parent can help the child with time management skills and give the best resources in an effort to motivate the child to do better in terms of performance and results.
The homeschooling parent works at making the academic life and the social life of the child challenging as well as exciting. Parents believe in polishing the homeschooled child as a person, not just in the homeschool, but outside too. As said earlier, motivation has to come from within, which actually is the best way a person can develop their life. However, the homeschooling parent contributes in making the child get self-motivated quickly because his environment is built up in a likewise manner.
The homeschooling parent helps the child come to terms with his interests, aspirations and goals in life. Information about his abilities, values, and hobbies are gathered through self-evaluation techniques, tests and counseling. If the student wants to gather information about a particular vocation or occupation, he is ably assisted with the Occupational handbooks offered by the homeschooling parent as a resource. If something personal is putting a stop to his thoughts, then he can definitely find help with the counseling center of the homeschool. There are individual, group therapy and self-help materials to help the homeschooled child as well. The homeschooling parent also helps a child to look at the problem rationally from the child's end. Parents can directly look at the problem objectively as well as rationally in a homeschool and therefore can successfully help their child work through any difficulty they may encounter.
