General Articles: Business Opportunities Grow with the Increase in Home Schoolers
By Mimi RothschildTeaching children through home school has grown considerably in recent years. The number of children being taught through home school has increased by about 1.25 million in the last nine years. Parents are beginning to realize that their children can learn just as much, if not more, through home school than they can through the public school systems.
The home school industry has grown so much in recent years that a new type of business has begun forming to meet the demands of the home school environment. This business supplies educational books for home school programs. This business is in such high demand that entrepreneurs are looking for new ways to keep up with demand.
Many of the entrepreneurs who started home school businesses are also parents of home school students. They found that it was difficult to find material that could be used as an educational aid in their children's learning. Books for home school businesses are currently reporting sales in the millions.
One way entrepreneurs are keeping up with the home school market is by outsourcing some of their work. They hire full-time managers and use computers to manage their inventory levels of home school books.
These mom and pop home school book businesses now have some competition thanks to Amazon, who has taken note of the increasing demand for home school books. Amazon is now trying to offer similar books for home school programs. Most people in the business aren't afraid of a little competition; they feel that they have insider knowledge because most have personal experience with home school programs themselves.
It is also difficult to target home school families because the home school community prides itself on its privacy. Most customers of home school book companies are attracted to the company by word of mouth and conventions, as well as online message boards. This means that the insiders have the advantage when it comes to selling home school books.
If you want to get into the market of selling home school books, then it is best if you are already involved in some way in the home school community. This is why parents of home schooled children have been so successful; they know exactly what types of books are needed to supplement a child's education program.
While home school may seem shut off from the rest of the world if you are an outsider looking in, you would actually discover that it is completely the opposite from the insider's view. Most home school parents are very much involved in the educational and home school communities, which ensure that their children receive the best education.
